IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK
SES has developed an implementation framework, honed through extensive application, to guide schools and districts in adopting Restorative Practices (RP). This framework is designed to foster equitable disciplinary policies, practices, and procedures. By sequentially integrating Needs Assessment, Community Engagement, and the core of Restorative Practices, the framework aligns RP with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Continuous improvement is ensured through ongoing Feedback, comprehensive Professional Development, and vigilant Monitoring. This systematic approach empowers schools to cultivate positive and inclusive learning environments for all students.
Implementation Framework Components
Needs Assessment
SES provides an audit to determine needs based on data analysis of school and district discipline incidents, culture and climate programs, and academic performance data, a review of artifacts (i.e.. discipline plans, procedures, programs, and systems), and stakeholder interviews.
Community Engagement
SES works with all members of the school community (i.e. students, parents/guardians, teachers, school administrators, educational and support personnel) to develop plans, processes, and systems that lead to improved culture and climate and restorative disciplinary practices.
Restorative Practices (RP)
Restorative Practices (RP) is an alternative to exclusionary disciplinary practices which removed students from the academic environment; instead, restorative justice seeks to repair the harm done when a standard of conduct is violated.
Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Development/Alignment
SES helps schools and districts build a school-wide approach to RP that intentionally and systematically creates culture change and ensures success of all students. RP is embedded into the MTSS framework and provides the backbone for data, systems, and practices across a hierarchy of supports for all students.
Feedback
Based on findings from the Needs Assessment/Audit, SES provides feedback that each school/district can employ to remedy or implement effective RP leading to an equitable learning environment with improved attendance, academic performance, and overall wellness.
Professional Development
SES provides on-site, remote, or hybrid professional development to help all stakeholders execute school and district plans and restorative practices.
Monitoring
When needed, schools and districts are provided with intensive culture and climate and disciplinary support and accountability.
